Hangar 54 was founded by the Armstrong brothers in June 2011. It was nearly two years of development, prototypes and planning to form the business and perfect the collection prior to the official launch in February 2013.

With a background in designing and engineering bespoke joinery for high-end clients, Shane’s business, Blades Joinery, has been used exclusively by many world renowned architects for some of the most exclusive residential developments the UK has seen.

It was Shane’s passion for quality and perfection that lit the touch paper for Hangar 54. Whilst shopping with his wife he noticed a piece of furniture made from an engine cowling and couldn’t contain his excitement. Although impressed by the cowling, on closer inspection the level of detail and finish left him with no doubt there was room for improvement.

Shane met with his younger brother Brett that weekend. They talked into the night about the possibility of creating a business together that would capture and inspire that first “child like” feeling of excitement he’d felt before.

Brett’s initial background was in retail. He opened the doors to his first business selling football memorabilia at the age of 19. He followed this by over a decade and a half in London building an Information Technology recruitment business focusing on Investment Banking and financial Markets.

As brothers, Shane and Brett had always turned to each other for support, guidance and advice.  Their joint passion and enthusiasm, combining complimenting attributes and skills gave them the belief and confidence to take the concept of Hangar 54, give her wings and get her flying….
